My essay for English

In English we have been watching the Power of One and then we had to write an essay on it here is mine:

In the movie Power Of One directed by John Avildsen, about the apartheid in South Africa we see the
techniques of close-ups; low key lighting; and diegetic sound creating impact by making the audience worry
for P.K

In Power Of One, close up shots of P.K are used effectively during the movie. For example, the director John
Avildsen uses close up shot after P.K pushes Jaapie Botha into the table. The director did this to show that
even though Botha is really mad ,P.K is not afraid. This technique created impact by showing us that P.K is
no longer afraid of Botha. This is shown again when P.K is fighting Botha at the end of the movie this shows
us that P.K has grown up alot.

Throughout the scene that P.K is getting bullied the use of low key lighting is used powerfully. For example,
the director uses low key lighting to show that this is a dangerous place for P.K to be. The director did this to
give the audience a sense of danger and uncertainty. This technique created impact by making us question
whether  P.K be okay. Another time we have low key lighting creating impact is when P.K is in the church
and are getting arrested this shows us that P.K is in trouble.

In the scene were Jaapie sentences P.Ks chicken to die, diegetic sound is used effectively. For example, you
can hear German music play in the background showing that these people support Germany. The director
uses this to show that P.K does not belong here and that the people in the room support Nazis. This technique
helped us to realize that P.K does not fit in at school and that he is alone. This happens again earlier on in the
movie when the headmaster is preaching on how the English drove the Afrikaans out of the fatherland.

In conclusion, the film Power of One by John Avildsen is a film with deep powerful messages and it is
enhanced by the film techniques of close-ups; low key lighting; and diegetic sound, these techniques give
impact by causing the audience to worry for P.K.

Egyptian medicine

Egyptian medicine and it's ideas is not to different to medicine we have today. for example they valued cleanliness and they had some good remedies for things only the problem was that they did not know what make you sink with things that you could not see i.e diseases they thought it was angry gods that made you sick so they would give offerings to the gods that you may have angered and they also used magic which we know now does not help. There were also female doctors which I found amazing as we have seemed to go backwards if that is the case. I also found that Egyptian medicine was very good for its time.
